  • WEC establishes office in Shanghai, China
  • WEC begins new Greening the Supply Chain Project with Shanghai General Motors

  • US AID funds WEC’s work for The Alliance For Competitive Production in El Salvador
  • WEC El Salvador office is established
2005
  • "Greening the Supply Chain Initiative" expands to China and Romania with IEF Members General Motors and Alcoa.
  • Holds first IEF Meeting in Beijing, China in partnership with US EPA and China Enterprise Confederation
  • WEC Headquarters office is relocated to Washington, D.C.
2003
  • WEC launches the "Greening the Supply Chain Initiative" with IEF Members Alcoa and Johnson & Johnson in Mexico. Further pilot projects are soon being implemented in Brazil.
2002
  • WEC launches Greening the Supply Chain and Cleaner Production programs in Latin America and the Caribbean.
  • WEC launches Global Corporate Citizenship (GCC) Working Group to facilitate and promote the operationalization of CSR policy and practices.
2001
  • CSR Task Team presents Sustainability Verification Guidelines at April IEF Ministerial meeting
  • WEC opens European office at the Environment Science Center of the University of Augsburg in Augsburg, Germany.

  • Ten out of eleven Pollution Prevention Centers still in operation
  • WEC launches International Corporate Social Responsibility (ICSR) Task Team at first WEC Forum on Sustainability

  • Conducts first capacity building projects in Ukraine and Central Asian Republics

  • Holds first IEF Meeting in Asia
1995
  • Signs Cooperation Agreement with the Swiss Government for work in Chile, Colombia, Bulgaria and Romania

  • Establishes first Pollution Prevention Centers in nine Central and Eastern European countries
  • Conducts 500th capacity building Project in Bandung, Indonesia

  • Launches Local Accident Mitigation and Prevention programs in India, Indonesia, Mexico and Thailand

  • Holds first IEF meeting in Europe

  • Receives first World Bank funding for projects in India and Poland

  • Initiates Country Profile Program - Holds first IEF workshop - Holds first capacity building activities in Asia

  • WEC Project Aftermath Workshop focuses global attention on environmental safety after Bhopal
  • WEC creates and presents first WEC Gold Medal for International Corporate Environmental Achievement to 3M
