Business Workshop on Implementing the UN SDGs

The World Environment Center, DNV GL and nine global companies met on February 6, 2019 in a workshop in Munich/Germany to explore trends in the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to share best practices. While global trends are showing that the large majority of large corporations have prioritized the SDGs for their organization and find value in them, meaningful engagement on target-level is hardly established. This is concerning as none of the SDGs are on track to being met. The workshop revealed that companies have now understood that the SDGs provide an opportunity to take additional action beyond established corporate sustainability goals and that it is more promising to focus action on target-level than addressing one of the 17 Goals without differentiation. The discussion helped to share practical ideas about how business can best start the process of working with the SDGs and how focused collaboration can be achieved.

Global companies that joined the dialogue were:

  • Boehringer Ingelheim
  • Dow Chemical
  • Draexlmaier
  • F. Hoffmann-La Roche
  • Merck KGaA
  • METRO
  • Royal Dutch Shell
  • SAP
  • Volkswagen
