World Environment Center Launches New Partnership in Nicaragua
On January 27, 2010 in Managua, Nicaragua, the World Environment Center launched a partnership to further the efforts of Nicaragua’s leading private sector associations in cleaner production and energy efficient operations. WEC has partnered with the Nicaragua Association of Exporters and Producers (APEN) and the Chamber of Industries of Nicaragua (CADIN) to provide technical assistance to their Small & Medium Enterprise members in:• Energy and water conservation;
• Waste, raw material and emissions reductions;
• Environmental management systems; and
• Accessing financial resources required for adoption of the enhanced techniques.
The project is funded by the U.S. Department of State and is active in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Guatemala and El Salvador, encouraging public-private partnerships and high-level involvement from each country’s Ministries of Environment and Economics. The official launch event in Nicaragua was attended by representatives of APEN, CADIN, the participating local businesses, the Nicaraguan government, and the US Embassy in Managua.
