Marks & Spencer Received 2008 Gold Medal for International Corporate Achievement in Sustainable Development

The World Environment Center’s (WEC) Twenty-Fourth Annual Gold Medal for International Corporate Achievement in Sustainable Development was awarded to Marks & Spencer for linking sustainability extensively with its supply chain, operations, and customers. David Nussbaum, Chief Executive, WWF-UK (pictured on the left), presented the award to Sir Stuart Rose, Chief Executive who accepted the award on behalf of the company and its employees.
Marks & Spencer’s Signature Contribution, known as Plan A, was cited by the independent international Gold Medal Jury as an extraordinary and successful model of sustainability practice. Plan A is a 100-point five year sustainable development program, covering all aspects of Marks & Spencer’s business.
The 2009 WEC Gold Medal Award will be presented at the 25th Gold Medal Presentation gala on Friday, May 8, 2009 in Washington, D.C. The Call for Nominations is now open, click here to apply online.
