New IEF Chair

Washington, D.C., July 29, 2004 – On be The Board of Directors of the World Environment Center (WEC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Stephen W. Raab, Global Vice President for Safety, Health and Environment at InterGen Energy Inc., as Chairman of the International Environment Forum (IEF).

Since being elected to the WEC Board of Directors in 2000, Steve Raab has worked closely with the IEF Senior Corporate Delegates and staff on numerous initiatives. Steve served as Chair of the International Corporate Social Responsibility Working Group (ICSR) that developed a unique set of CSR management tools designed to facilitate and substantiate corporate policy and practice. More recently, Steve has worked to facilitate more dialogue on CSR implementation and engagement with the financial community on various CSR benchmarking and SRI-related topics.

Steve succeeds fellow WEC Board Member Karl Schmidt who is Vice President of Worldwide Process Excellence for Johnson & Johnson. During his two years as IEF Chair, Karl brought tremendous energy and engagement to all of our meetings. He participated in the design and implementation of our IEF Roundtables and helped to expand our activities in Asia with the first ever IEF meeting in Japan last fall. He also worked diligently with Board Chairman Jim Lime, Vice President, Corporate Environment, Health and Safety at Pfizer, Inc. to expand our recruitment efforts, resulting in new IEF member companies Abbot Laboratories, Hewlett Packard, Inco Inc., Johnson Controls, Merck, and Petroleos Mexicanos.

Steve will also assume Karl's duties as Chairman of the IEF Steering Committee, a member-driven body that will continue to lead the IEF in identifying and defining future IEF priorities.
