William K. Reilly and Fred Krupp to Address Role of Private Equity Firms and Environmental Protection at WEC's Washington Sustainability Forum
WASHINGTON D.C.- October 10, 2007 - The World Environment Center (WEC) announced
today that William K, Reilly, former Environmental Protection Agency
Administrator and Senior Advisor to TPG Capital, and Fred Krupp, President of
Environmental Defense, will jointly speak on "The Role of Private Equity Firms
and Environmental Decision Making" at the National Press Club on October 15,
2007 from 3:00—5:00 p.m. Both individuals will address WEC's Washington
Sustainability Forum, a non-profit discussion platform for advancing sustainable
development among leaders of government, business, non-governmental
organizations and other stakeholders.
As global environmental leaders,
Mr. Reilly and Mr. Krupp are increasingly shaping the public debate over the
role, responsibility and value of private equity sources of capital in
acquisition and other investment decisions that have environmental and broader
societal impacts. They played an instrumental role in the recent acquisition of
TXU (Texas Utilities, Texas' largest electricity provider) by Kohlberg Kravis
Roberts and Co. and TPG Capital in the historic decision to make far-reaching
environmental commitments a major element of the purchase conditions. This is
the first time Messrs. Reilly and Krupp will be speaking publicly in Washington
about the TXU deal.
"Bill Reilly and Fred Krupp are two of the world's
most influential voices reshaping the dialogue and redefining the rules by which
business, environmental organizations and government are advancing sustainable
development," stated Terry F. Yosie, WEC's President & CEO. "Their views
make a difference in global capital markets and will impact future investment
decisions."
Sponsorship of the Washington Sustainability Forum is
provided by The Dow Chemical Company.
