The next 50 years of environmental protection will not look like the first 50—they will be driven by technology as much as by regulation. Technology is radically reshaping how things are powered, made, and moved. It is allowing us to observe environmental conditions in real time, and to adjust how we produce goods and services to reduce waste and pollution. Technology is not a panacea, but an instrument of rapid change, in the world we live in and in the world of environmental law and protection.

Join us for a two-day conference where we will explore innovative and transformative technologies—drones, artificial intelligence, sensors, bioengineering, and biotechnology among others—and the unique opportunities—and challenges—they present for protecting the environment. Engage with a diverse group of stakeholders at this one-of-a-kind event, which will include demonstrations, discussions, and dialogue. Experts from diverse business sectors will speak on the role of law and public policy in facilitating the development and deployment of emerging technologies; the societal benefits and costs of these technologies; opportunities for the cross-cutting application of different technologies; and public reaction to some of these emerging technologies and the management of change.

WEC to Promote Environmental Governance in Morocco and Jordan

The United States Department of State’s Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs has funded the World Environment Center to promote environmental governance through improved practices and technologies in Morocco and Jordan.  The purpose of this initiative is to strengthen environmental governance that will lead to the adoption of improved environmental practices, technologies, and services, particularly in addressing air pollution, water and waste management challenges.  WEC has partnered with EDI Consulting in Morocco and Water and Environment Center/Cleaner Production Unit at the Royal Scientific Society in Jordan to provide their on-the-ground knowledge and support to achieve project objectives.

WEC and its local partners will create public-private partnerships involving priority sectors to address those environmental challenges, while fostering the use of U.S. environmental technologies.
