Honouring Industry Excellence - The Gold Medal Award

The Gold Medal Award is presented annually to a global company that has demonstrated a unique example of sustainability in business practice.

The WEC Gold Medal Award is one of the most prestigious forms ofGold Medal recognition of a global company's ongoing commitment to the practice of sustainable development. Only global manufacturing, processing or service corporations that can document well implemented, outstanding and sustained success are eligible to compete for the award. A potential applicant company must demonstrate global vision and a commitment to sustainable development through innovative application of policies, and international economic, environmental, and social responsibilities. An independent Jury of international leaders makes the Gold Medal recipient selection.

The 2011 Gold Medal was presented to Nestlé S.A. at the World Environment Center's Annual Gold Medal Gala in Washington, DC on May 19, 2011.  Jim Schorr, Professor for the Practice of Business and Society at Vanderbilt University and Co-Founder of Net Impact, presented the Award to Nestlé CEO Paul Bulcke before an audience of 450 leaders from the business, government, and NGO communities.
